Our Membership Qualifications and Responsibilities
For Our Peer Buddies
According to Best Buddies, a Peer Buddy is "a high school student who commits to a one-to-one friendship with a person with intellectual or developmental disabilities for one academic year."
A Peer Buddy must:
1) Go on a one-on-one outing with her Buddy once a month. Activities may include bowling, going to a movie etc.
2) Contact her Buddy at least once a week via telephone, email, Facebook, instant messenger, or in-person.
3) Participate in monthly group activities with the rest of the chapter. Previous group activities have included going bowling,
watching movies at the local theater, going to Barnaby's, as well as participating in on-campus Best Buddies holiday parties with yummy snacks along with fun activities.
4) Complete a Best Buddies Membership Application and Matching Survey online on the chapter portal at: www.bestbuddiesonline.org.
5) Complete a Friendship Update online every month to report weekly contact along with monthly activities on the chapter portal at:
www.bestbuddiesonline.org.
For Our Associate Members
If you think that you do not have the time to commit to an actual Buddy, you can become an Associate Member and join us for some fun during our monthly group activities. According to Best Buddies, an associate member "provides chapter support as needed, but is not matched in a one-to-one friendship."
An associate member must:
1) Participate in chapter events and monthly group activities with the rest of the chapter.
For Our Buddies
According to Best Buddies, a Buddy is " a student with a mild to moderate intellectual or developmental disability who commits to a
one-to-one friendship with a high school student for an academic year."
A Buddy must:
1) Go on a one-on-one outing with her Buddy twice a month. Activities may include bowling, watching movies etc.
2) Contact her Buddy at least once a week via telephone, email, Facebook, instant messenger, or in-person.
3) Participate in monthly group activities with the rest of the chapter. Previous group activities have included going bowling, watching movies at the local theater, going to Barnaby's, as well as participating in on-campus Best Buddies holiday parties with yummy snacks along with fun activities
4) Have the ability to form a socially appropriate and mutually enriching friendship.
